Introduction

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force across the European Union on 25th May 2018 and brings with it the most significant changes to data protection law in two decades. Based on privacy by design and taking a risk-based approach, the GDPR has been designed to meet the requirements of the digital age.

The 21st Century brings with it broader use of technology, new definitions of what constitutes personal data, and a vast increase in cross-border processing. The new Regulation aims to standardise data protection laws and processing across the EU; affording individuals stronger, more consistent rights to access and control their personal information.

Our Commitment

Containers 4 Sale UK Ltd is committed to ensuring the security and protection of the personal information that we process, and to provide a compliant and consistent approach to data protection. We have always had a robust and effective data protection programme in place which complies with existing law and abides by the data protection principles. However, we recognise our obligations in updating and expanding this programme to meet the demands of the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Our preparation and objectives for GDPR compliance have been summarised in this statement and include the development and implementation of data protection roles, policies, procedures, controls and measures to ensure maximum and ongoing compliance.

How We Are Preparing for the GDPR

Our preparation includes:

  • Information Audit – Assessing what personal information we hold, its sources, processing purposes, and disclosure.
  • Policies & Procedures – Implementing new data protection policies including:
    • Data Protection – Revised main policy to meet GDPR standards, with accountability and privacy by design focus.
    • Data Retention & Erasure – Updated policies to meet data minimisation and erasure obligations.
    • Data Breaches – Procedures in place for timely breach reporting and staff awareness.
    • International Data Transfers – Safeguards for cross-border data handling and due diligence checks.
    • Legal Basis for Processing – Ongoing review of processing purposes and legal justifications.
    • Privacy Notice/Policy – Clear, updated notice covering rights, uses, and disclosures.
    • Obtaining Consent – Improved, auditable consent mechanisms and withdrawal options.
    • Direct Marketing – Opt-in processes and unsubscribe features for communications.
    • Processor Agreements – Compliant contracts and due diligence with third-party processors.
    • Special Categories Data – Strict compliance with Article 9 and high-level protections.

Data Subject Rights

We ensure individuals can enforce their rights by providing access to information and support for:

  • What personal data we hold
  • The purposes of processing
  • Categories of personal data concerned
  • Recipients of the data
  • Retention periods
  • Sources of data not collected directly
  • Rights to correct, complete, or erase data
  • Rights to object or restrict processing
  • Automated decision-making, if used
  • How to lodge a complaint or seek a legal remedy

Information Security & Technical and Organisational Measures

We take all reasonable measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Our security layers include SSL certificates, access controls, password policies, and IT procedures to ensure secure data handling.
